About Brean and the surrounding area.

The Beach

The Beach

The dog friendly beach is just a 400 metre walk from the property. The 7 mile long sandy beach and dunes has Brean Down at one end and Burnham on Sea at the other.  Brean has the second largest tidal movement in the world, with the difference between high and low water being as much as 3/4 mile.

There are many pathways on and off the beach throughout the village, and for the less able if you drive to the far end nearer Brean Down you can drive onto the beach, or the National Trust Car Park overlooks the beach.

Please note at low tide, vast expanses of mud flats are exposed and are dangerous if you walk (or drive) too far out at low tide.

Brean

Brean

Brean itself is a popular holiday resort.  We are situated in the quieter centre of the village and within a one mile walking distance of the main attractions which tend to lie at the edge of the village, including Brean Leisure Park, Brean Play, Brean Splash and amusement arcades.

There are many places to eat and drink in Brean most of which are seasonal, but include your typical fish and chips, Chinese, Indian, cafes, bars, pubs and at the higher the Brean Country Club.  Many venues provide seasonal entertainment the closest of which being the Seagul (which is reopening for 2022) and the Beachcomber

The property itself is situated adjacent to the medieval church of St Bridget, a small but beautiful grade II listed property that has been serving the local community since the 13th Century.

Brean Down

Brean Down

Brean Down is a National Trust property which is a 1.5 mile long 97-metre-high headland stretching out to sea.  There are a set of step steps (around 200) up the side of Brean Down which take you to the top for amazing views, over the Bristol Channel towards South Wales, Weston-Super-Mare on the far side and the Somerset Levels.  There is circular walk and be sure to get to walk the full length of the Down to see Palmerston Fort ruin.

If walking dogs on the Down, please keep them on leads, as unfortunately a few get over excited and can fall over the edge.

There is a National Trust car park, cafe, and toilets at the bottom of the down.

Animal Farm

The Brean Down Way Cycle Path (Route 33)

The Brean Down Way Cycle Path (Route 33)

The Brean Down Way (National Cycle Path Route 33) is a fantastic walking and cycle path linking Brean to Weston-super-Mare.

It is mostly traffic free, with the exception of Warren Road and Uphill Road, and is mainly level and flat, apart from a small rise at Walborough, making it accessible to families and novice cyclists alike.  Wheelchair and mobility scooters users are also often seen using the path.

The total stretch from Brean Down to Weston-super-Mare is approximately 8 miles long.  Brean Village Hall is approximately 200 meters from our property, and at this point joins the cycle path.  From here to the end of Brean Down is 3 miles, and in the opposite direction 3 miles to Uphill Marina or you can carry on for a further 2 miles to the grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare.

There is beautiful scenery along the way including the Brean Cross Sluice, crossing the River Axe, with its quirky fencing of the 'Great Bird Screen of Brean', designed to protect wading birds (particularly redshank) in the area, Uphil Marina and Walborough Nature Reserve.

For those wishing to hire bikes, Brean Bike Hire is just ahort walk away
